How we found the tannery

Leather is the main component of most of our products, which is why we do not compromise when it comes to the quality of our leather. In our search for the few tanneries that have achieved the coveted Leather Working Group (LWG) Gold rating, we came across Gruppo Mastrotto. Their Sustainability Next Level initiative, which manifests their commitment to the environment and their endeavor to create a better world for future generations, aligns perfectly with our own values.

Sustainability

Over the years, Mastrotto has invested heavily in innovative solutions to minimize the environmental impact of the tanning industry. These include, among others, the introduction of water-based finishing processes, the construction of water treatment plants, and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions with four 3,100 kW combined heat and power plants.

In view of these initiatives, Mastrotto was awarded the Blue Angel certificate, which attests to the ecological quality of the leather produced and confirms that the leather is manufactured with the goal of minimizing impacts on health and the environment during both the production phase and the recycling and disposal phase.

But that is not all. Gruppo Mastrotto is the first tannery in the world to receive the Biobased certification from the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, one of the most respected institutions regarding sustainability and environmental protection. The biobased content of a product is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source. The USDA label classifies Mastrotto leather as 90% biobased, making it very environmentally friendly leather.

Thanks to Mastrotto’s commitment to innovative and sustainable production, the tannery was selected as one of only 5 companies to participate in the GREEN L.I.F.E. project (Green Leather Industry for the Environment), which is funded by the European Commission. The primary goal of Green LIFE is to reduce the environmental impact of the various segments of the tanning sector.

Which leather we use

We use the famous nappa, suede, and pebble leathers for many of our belts and sneakers. In addition to their excellent quality and elegant appearance, Mastrotto leathers are distinguished by their color consistency, which is essential for perfectly matching the colors of our sneakers and belts.

The work behind the leather

Leather is one of the oldest materials ever used by humans, with historical records dating back many thousands of years. Even today, with the most modern technology, producing premium leather is a complex and lengthy process. All of our raw hides are byproducts of the meat and hunting industries and are tanned in Europe by some of the world's most renowned tanneries, adhering to the strict REACH regulations to ensure clean and sustainable production. The proud result is premium leather that will stand the test of time.
