About the manufactory

The history of our Classic Belt Manufactory dates all the way back to the year 1825 making it the oldest belt manufactory in Germany. For the first 160 years of the Company's history, however, the family business was not particularly known for its belts, but for its vegetable-tanned leathers. Yet, with the creeping decline of the German tanning industry due to the world economic crisis after the World War and severe competition from low-wage countries, the Manufactory was forced to restructure. The tanning operation was discontinued and the tanning pits were filled in. But this was not the end; It was a new beginning. On these foundations, one of the most modern handicraft manufactories in all of Germany was created, which is known worldwide for its high-quality leather belts today.

How we found the manufactory

Our Classic Belt Manufactory was the first Company we ever worked with and will always have a special place in our hearts. We founded Dalgado without any previous experience or contacts in the fashion industry. All we knew was that we wanted to craft belts of the finest quality and that German handcraft is still one of the best in the world. The problem with traditional manufactures is the lack of a good website, which makes it almost impossible to find them. After a long search and many phone calls we finally had an interesting lead. We arranged a meeting and travelled to a small town near Hamburg, where the Manufactory is located. We have never regretted this trip.

Sustainability

The Factory has undergone many modernizations to minimise the environmental impact of its production embodying the perfect symbiosis of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. Katharina, a family member of the 7th generation, hits the nail on the head: “The most sustainable aspect of our production is our quality: Our belts are handcrafted with the aspiration to last a lifetime.”

Where the materials for our belts come from

For our classic belts, we use many different premium leathers from Tanneries Mastrotto, Rémy Carriat, Curtidos Badia and Sohre. The high-quality buckles with Palladium plating come from our Buckle Manufactory I.
