About the manufactory

Our Sock Factory is a traditional family business and textiles have been a family passion for decades. Portugal is known for its high-quality yarns and Manel’s grandfather was a much-respected textile maker. He taught the craft to his son who ended up founding the sock company in 1966. In close partnership with his father, Manel is now adapting to modern times by combining traditional sock-making techniques with newest technology. The proud results are incredibly comfortable and effortlessly elegant socks. Manel sums it up best: “We have one goal: Putting on one of our socks should feel like coming home”.

How we found the manufactory

Finding our sock maker was a rare stroke of luck. As it so happens, Rui, the owner of our Sneaker Factory, and Manel met at university and have remained friends ever since. When we told Rui that we wanted to create socks to go along with our sneakers, he warmly recommended to go visit Manel and his Factory near Porto. That’s exactly what we did and it turned out to be one of the best recommendations we have ever gotten.

Sustainability

The Sock Factory is probably the greenest factory we have ever seen. As a power source, it uses green electricity from a nearby dam and wind power plant. Steam is generated by burning recycled wood which comes from cleaning efforts of rotten tree bark in the close-by woods and mountains. The heat generated during operations within the Factory is absorbed, filtered and put back in the Factory to heat it during the colder days.

Materials Used for Our Socks

For the creation of our socks we use Scottish Lisle Cotton
