About the Manufactory

The history of this renowned manufactory dates back to very humble beginnings. Many years ago, the founder, Angelo, learned his trade in the leather industry in a small shoemaker's workshop. When he founded the manufactory in 1962, he initially focused on making shoes. Over the years, and especially with the entry of his son Andrea into the family business in 1990, the focus increasingly shifted to the production of hand-woven leather goods. With decades of experience, the manufactory has now established itself as one of the absolute market leaders in the field of hand-woven leather accessories.

How we found the manufactory

The ancient handicraft of hand-braiding belts is a nearly lost art. There are only very few traditional workshops left in the world with the necessary know-how. We have always loved the braided optic and admired the amount of dedication required to braid the individual leather strings to form a finished belt. It took us a long time to find the Manufactory and we finally heard about it from a friend of ours who has been working in the leather industry for decades. So, we took a trip to Florence, the capital of art, fashion, and design during the Renaissance, and were immediately impressed by Andrea’s professionalism and dedication to quality. It comes as no surprise that the Manufactory has been supplying some of the most prestigious and established luxury brands for decades.

Sustainability

The entire philosophy behind our braided belts is based on sustainability. The leathers used are all full-grain vegetable-tanned leathers sourced from an esteemed French tannery. The environmentally friendly vegetable-tanning method combined with grade A quality full-grain cow leathers, which are all side products of the European meat industry, guarantee an extremely long wearing joy. The leathers will develop a rich patina over time and only become more beautiful which is perfectly in line with our support of slow fashion. Since the belts are braided by hand, the production process generates minimal amounts of pollution.

Where the materials come from

For our hand-woven belts, we use durable vegetable-tanned calfskin from France. Our hand-woven belt manufacturer has asked us not to disclose the name of the tannery, so we're not including it here. The buckles come from our Buckle Factory II.
